About this Cycle Tour

Romania is one of Europe’s most compelling and least explored cycling destinations, where quiet country roads connect forested hills and traditional villages. This journey through Transylvania moves through landscapes shaped by Saxon, Hungarian, and Romanian influences, revealing a region rich in history and daily life. Cycling here offers a rare mix of gentle riding, cultural depth, and warm rural hospitality, where the past feels lived-in rather than staged.

The route begins in the village of Tălișoara and unfolds across the rolling landscapes of southern Transylvania, moving between historic towns and villages along quiet rural roads. Highlights include cycling between beautifully preserved Saxon communities such as Viscri and Cincșor, villages supported by the conservation efforts of King Charles III, and exploring UNESCO-listed Sighișoara, the medieval birthplace of Dracula. The journey is framed by open farmland and the foothills of the Carpathians, before concluding in Sibiu, one of Transylvania’s most historic cities. Cultural encounters are woven into the journey, from visits to restoration projects and fortified churches to tastings of Romanian wines and regional cuisine. Accommodations are a defining feature of the tour, with nights spent in carefully restored manor houses and atmospheric village inns.

Join us on this seven-day cycling journey through the heart of Transylvania.

Itinerary

Day 1

We transfer from Bucharest or Brașov to Tălișoara, where the journey begins. We aim to arrive in time for a short warm-up ride through the surrounding countryside to get comfortable with the bikes and terrain. You'll have time to relax or visit the local blacksmith before our first group dinner.

Day 2

After breakfast, we ride straight out of the manor into rural Transylvania, following the Olt River through medieval countryside. After lunch in Rupea, the afternoon ride continues at a relaxed pace to Viscri, a UNESCO World Heritage village known for its Saxon heritage.

Day 3

We ride out of Viscri, heading west through the villages of Dacia and Jibert before crossing a forested hill. Along the way, we visit a biodiversity farm for an organic lunch, then continue on scenic gravel roads to Cincșor, where we stay in a carefully restored historic guesthouse.

Day 4

From Cincșor, we ride north through rural Transylvania to Dealu Frumos, considered the geographical centre of Romania. The route passes several Saxon villages and a fortified church restoration site near lunchtime, before finishing in Sighișoara, a beautifully preserved medieval hilltop town.

Day 5

We ride out of Sighișoara on gentle country roads through a quiet rural landscape. An off-road trail leads to the pastoral village of Prod before continuing to Cund. In the afternoon, we enjoy an easy ride to a nearby winery for a tasting, then return to Cund for the night.

Day 6

We ride to Biertan, the first Transylvanian village to receive UNESCO status, before continuing through forested terrain to Alma Vii for lunch in a Saxon cellar. The afternoon ride follows the Hârtibaciu Valley to Nocrich, from where we transfer to Sibiu, our final destination.

Day 7

After breakfast, the tour ends in Sibiu. From here, you’re free to extend your stay or travel onward, and we’re happy to help with post-tour arrangements.
