Exploring Bulgaria By Bicycle

Bulgaria is the least ridden country in the Balkans. Mountains cover about a third of it. The Stara Planina runs the full width of the country, from the Serbian border to the Black Sea, and south of it the Rila, Pirin and Rhodope ranges take over, holding Musala at 2,925 metres above sea level, the highest point in the Balkans. In between are river valleys, farmland and villages built of stone and timber. The roads are empty, the surfaces are better than you'd expect, and nothing here has been tidied up for visitors.
