About this Cycle Tour

The mighty Mekong spreads into tentacles and tributaries in southern Vietnam, making the delta fertile and the region one of Vietnam's highest producers of rice, vegetables, and fruits. Cycling through rice paddies, orchards, along and over a myriad of small irrigation canals will let you see this unique area of Vietnam.

We ride from village to village, boarding a few boats along the way, to give you an up-close perspective of Vietnamese life on the river. We stop to shop and take in the colorful Cai Rang floating market before heading back to Saigon. This Mekong Delta bicycle tour is perfect for someone wanting to venture off the tourist track and into authentic Vietnam!

Check out our blog to learn more about what makes the Mekong Delta such a cycling paradise.

Itinerary

Day 1

We transfer out of Saigon for our first ride among the lush greenery of the Mekong Delta. Cycling past tropical fruit orchards, we reach the riverside town of Cai Be and spend the night at a cosy ecolodge on the banks of the mighty Mekong River.

Day 2

Today is a day of river hopping and countryside cycling, taking ferries across the expansive branches of the Mekong River and riding through a serene world of coconut farms. At the end of the day, another lovely riverside lodge awaits.

Day 3

Venturing deeper into Vietnam’s “rice bowl”, we cycle through an extensive patchwork of rice paddies and observe scenes of daily life amidst the fields, waterways, fruit orchards, villages, and towns. We spend the night in Can Tho, the Mekong Delta’s largest city and commercial hub.

Day 4

In the morning we visit Cai Rang, the Mekong Delta’s liveliest floating market, by boat. Back on dry land, we enjoy our final green and meandering Mekong Delta ride in the countryside before driving back to Saigon.

Our guide Bao absolutely made the trip for us. Pointing out unusual sights, providing interesting local food venues and always looking out for our safety and well being. Just such a great guy.

This was a wonderful tour! A mix of bike riding, sightseeing, learning local culture, and delicious food. Well supported by our English speaking guide Bao and our driver Chu, we enjoyed local Homestays as well as very modern hotels. A truly great way to get to know a country!
