About this Cycle Tour

Think of coffee and you’re thinking of Colombia. This cycling journey takes you deep into the heart of the Colombian Andes, riding through the iconic Coffee Region, a UNESCO World Heritage site locally known as the Eje Cafetero. Set among rolling green hills, vibrantly painted towns, and endless coffee estates, this 10-day tour offers more than challenging, world-class backcountry riding — it’s a celebration of a rich heritage, the Andes, and the perfect brew.

We meet in Pereira, the gateway to Colombia’s Coffee Region, and head north to a historic hacienda (coffee lodge) nestled in the highlands of the Caldas department. Based here for four nights, we take a slow-drip approach with daily morning rides across lush valleys and afternoons spent learning about coffee, local life, orchids, and hummingbirds. We also treat ourselves to an unforgettable downhill from the Nevado del Ruiz volcano. By Day 5, we head south into the heart of the Eje Cafetero with rides set along a network of hilly backroads that connect the region’s coffee-growing veredas (farming communities) to the Pueblos Cafeteros (coffee market towns). We spend two nights at a purpose-built cycling hotel and round off our journey in Salento, where we hike in the dreamy Cocora Valley — home to the world’s tallest palm trees — and go off-road in the high Andes. The tour ends with an airport transfer to either Armenia or Pereira.

Join us to explore the breathtaking scenery, biodiversity, and culture of Colombia’s coffee highlands!

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in Pereira, the gateway to Colombia’s Coffee Region. At 13:00 hrs. (01:00 PM), we will pick you up from your pre-tour hotel and transfer to a historic coffee estate nestled in the highlands. We will be based here for the first four nights of the tour.

Day 2

Our first ride winds through the lush coffee landscapes of Caldas, following quiet backroads lined with dense vegetation, small streams, and vibrant green hillsides. The day is a sensory introduction to the Coffee Region, combining immersive riding through plantations with a guided bean-to-cup coffee experience in the afternoon.

Day 3

A day of dramatic contrasts. We drive to the high-altitude wilderness of Los Nevados National Park for an unforgettable downhill, witnessing a transition from volcanic peaks to cloud forests and sun-drenched coffee highlands. We also cruise through the historic centre of Manizales before returning to the hacienda.

Day 4

A challenging yet fabulous morning ride takes us on trails through emerald hills covered in subtropical greenery and fincas growing coffee and plantains. We finish at a renowned orchid sanctuary for lunch among pretty flowers and hummingbirds before a short afternoon transfer back to our hacienda.

Day 5

It is time for the toughest ride of the tour, taking us south along a network of hilly backroads that connect the region’s coffee-growing veredas (farming communities) to the Pueblos Cafeteros (coffee market towns). We spend the night in the hinterland of Pereira.

Day 6

We cycle south through a lush tropical landscape which gradually transitions into coffee-studded Quindío highlands. There’s plenty of climbing to keep our legs busy, but the scenery is stunning, and we treat ourselves to a two-night stay at a cyclist hotel near Filandia.

Day 7

This morning we embark on a scenic loop, cycling on rural roads linking the quintessential Colombian coffee towns of Filandia, Quimbaya, and Montenegro. The afternoon is free to take advantage of the hotel’s facilities (including a spa!) or head into Filandia and hang out in its vibrant plaza.

Day 8

Today we trade our cycling cleats for hiking shoes to explore the dreamy Cocora Valley, home to the world’s tallest palm trees. The afternoon is free to relax or head into the colourful Andean town of Salento, where we are based for the last two nights.

Day 9

After a transfer into the high Andes, we get on our bikes in the Carbonera Wax Palm Reserve. We cycle through the wilds of this atmospheric forest ecosystem before rattling downhill into the Coffee Region. Tonight we celebrate the journey with a farewell dinner.

Day 10

The tour ends with a transfer to either the city of Armenia or Pereira, both around 1.5 hours away. Both cities have airports, though Pereira offers a greater number of flights.
