About this Cycle Tour

Every day, scores of tourists opt for a quick 1-hour flight from Bangkok to Siem Reap, the gateway to the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor. If you enjoy cycling, then skip the flight and join us on this storied mountain biking adventure connecting these two regal cities instead!

After picking you up from your hotel in Bangkok we transfer to Thailand’s eastern coast, where we'll saddle-up for a warm-up ride to a gorgeous viewpoint overlooking the ocean and spend the night in the historic city of Chanthaburi. The following day we switch Kingdoms, riding from Thailand into Cambodia. We skirt along the edges of the Cardamom Mountains and traverse rice-paddy covered floodplains to reach the city of Battambang, renowned for its French colonial architecture. From here, we journey onwards to Siem Reap, home to the temples of Angkor and situated on the eastern shores of the Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. Depending on the water levels of the lake, we’ll either reach Siem Reap by boat cruise across the Tonle Sap or via overland car transfer. In Siem Reap, we have three days of fantastic cycling ahead. Riding on paths perfect for mountain biking, we’ll explore the majestic temples of the once-glorious Khmer Empire, including, of course Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument. We also venture further afield to discover lesser visited sites and immerse ourselves in the ebb and flow of daily life in rural Cambodia, far away from the touring masses. The tour ends in Siem Reap.

Join us on this memorable two-Kingdom ride!

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in Bangkok and transfer to the coastal province of Rayong. After a beachside lunch we saddle-up and enjoy a warm up ride to a gorgeous viewpoint overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. We then transfer to the historic town of Chanthaburi where we spend the night.

Day 2

We switch Kingdoms, riding from Thailand into Cambodia. The contrast is striking yet fun as we transition from well-paved roads in the Thai countryside to a gravely patchwork of paths in rural western Cambodia. We spend the night at a cozy hotel near the town of Pailin.

Day 3

Cycling on paved roads, today’s route takes us along the edge of the Cardamom Mountains and through the heart of one of Cambodia's most fertile agricultural regions. We spend the night in Battambang, a laid- back city with well-preserved French colonial buildings.

Day 4

We give our legs a rest and make our way from Battambang to Siem Reap. When water levels are sufficiently high, we take a boat cruise on the Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. When water levels are too low, we’ll transfer overland by vehicle.

Day 5

We discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor by bike, cycling on small paths that crisscross the ancient landscape. Visiting the most iconic sites today - Ta Prohm, Bayon and, of course, Angkor Wat – we’ll learn about the enigmatic history of the once-glorious Khmer Empire.

Day 6

We cycle on countryside roads towards the sacred mountain of Phnom Kulen, north of Siem Reap. We stop to discover the delicate, pink sandstone temple of Banteay Srey and trek to see the fascinating riverbed carvings at Kbal Spean.

Day 7

We make the most of the tour’s final morning! Depending on whether or not we have done a Tonle Sap cruise on Day 4, we either visit a floating village or cycle to the Roluos group of temples. After a farewell lunch the tour ends in Siem Reap.
