Road Escape: Hua Hin

Day 1 Bangkok - Khlong Khon - Hua Hin

After picking you up from your Bangkok hotel, we transfer about two hours to our cycling start point in Khlong Khong, a coastal area along the Gulf of Thailand dominated by salt pans, aquaculture farms, and mangrove forests. As we ride south along quiet secondary roads, we pass through a vast, well-manicured landscape where sea salt is harvested en masse and a variety of seafood, especially shrimp, is farmed. We glide through fishing towns, cross bridges over estuaries, and zip by glittering Buddhist temples. Occasionally, the road hugs the coastline, revealing views of the calm seas of the Gulf of Thailand stretching to the east. After approximately 80 km, we arrive at the beachfront road in Cha Am, where we dismount, unwind, and gather for a welcome dinner. A beloved beach retreat for many Thais, Cha Am is often lively on weekends and holidays but remains pleasantly tranquil during weekdays.

Day 2 Cha Am - Monsoon Valley Vineyard

Today’s ride takes us from the coast into the rolling hills of peninsular Thailand’s interior. The first 15 km are flat and easy as we head inland, gradually transitioning into a steady, low-gradient climb that rises from sea level to around 200 metres. The terrain undulates gently, and the scenery shifts to a patchwork of agricultural landscapes featuring rubber trees, corn, pineapples, and other tropical crops. At around 48 km, we cycle alongside a picturesque reservoir framed by the rugged, low-lying peaks of the Tenasserim Hills. After just over 80 km our ride ends at a destination you probably wouldn’t expect to find so close to the equator: a vineyard! With its orderly rows of grape vines nestled against lush hills, Monsoon Valley Vineyard offers the perfect setting for a relaxing lunchI. It's also one of Thailand’s pioneering producers of tropical wines. Since we’ll transfer to Hua Hin after lunch, feel free to indulge in a glass (or two!) before the one-hour drive to a charming seaside resort, where we’ll spend the next two nights

Day 3 Hua Hin Loop

This morning, we embark on one of our all-time favorite road biking loops around Hua Hin. We navigate our way out of the town along the main road and cycling paths before riding through farmlands to reach Pranburi Beach, about 25 km into the day. Here, we cycle along a quiet beach road, following the tropical shoreline and pausing for refreshments before veering inland. We follow peaceful secondary roads through the countryside, passing familiar scenes of densely clustered oil palm trees, expansive farm fields in various stages — fallow, tilled, or planted — and the occasional cow casting a curious glance our way! There’s a few undulating sections, but nothing in excess of a 4% incline. At around 80 km, we join a larger road and ride the shoulder back into Hua Hin. We aim to arrive in the early afternoon, giving you plenty of time to lounge by the pool, hit the beach, indulge in a Thai massage, or explore the shops in town. In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner.
