About this Cycle Tour

Northern Laos is defined by dramatic limestone karsts, unique highland cultures, and the winding paths of the Nam Ou and Mekong rivers. This 9-day mountain bike tour takes us deep into the country’s northern mountains, where remote farming valleys cut between sheer limestone massifs and high passes. We ride on unpaved doubletrack and dirt trails, connect rural communities, and navigate historic waterways by traditional longtail boat.

Starting from Luang Prabang, we push north into the rugged mountain interior. Over six riding stages, we tackle demanding climbs through dense upland forest, navigate rough ridge switchbacks, and take on fast, technical descents dropping into river gorges. The route links rural Khmu and Tai Lue agricultural settlements, leads past wartime shelter caves in Nong Khiaw, and features a traditional Baci thread-tying ceremony with local hosts. Between riding days, riverboats carry us along the Nam Ou and the Mekong, delivering us directly to trailheads framed by towering karst cliffs. Our tour concludes with a final stage along valley farmlands to Lathan before cruising back downriver into Luang Prabang for a celebratory farewell dinner.

Join us for a rugged, off-road cycling journey through the karst highlands and river valleys of Northern Laos.

Reviews

Well planned, great guide and sag support was always there. Getting to meet locals during our trip made the tour so much better than riding just to ride. I would do another tour!

Hidden Tribes and Trails of Laos was a brilliant tour for people with high demands on nature and open space. The access to the people in the tribe villages was exceptional. The tour requires technical skills and good stamina. I think it was already the 10th trip with Spiceroads...this tour was the most brilliant. After the tour is before the tour - see you soon
