About this Cycle Tour

Day 1

Meet in Fukuoka, Japan's sixth-largest city for a welcome dinner and trip briefing.

Day 2

Visit Kyushu National Museum then start cycling in Dazaifu, visiting the shrine and temple before arriving in a hot spring resort and Edo-era mer-chant town of Hida.

Day 3

We change terrain and have a bit of a climb, slowly make our way up to Oishitoge Pass (475 m). But the reward is a terrific downhill to the town of Usa.

Day 4

We climb up Mount Futago. On our way down, we visit one of Japan’s oldest wooden temples. Cycling along beaches and ports, we arrive at our ryokan, with an onsen overlooking the blue sea.

Day 5

We ride inland to avoid busy roads to the town of Kitsuki, with well-preserved samurai districts and Kitsuki Castle. We end our tour in Japan's most famous hot spring resort at Beppu town.

Day 6

Our tour ends after breakfast and you are free to extend your trip in Beppu or to depart for onward travel. Transfer to the nearest airport in Oita, or the train station, can be arranged.

Our tour was superb, above and beyond what we expected. The ride guide and the support team were friendly and knowledgeable, committed to our tour being a fabulous experience. The food exceeded expectations, and it seemed that every detail was attended to. Our guide shared interesting details at various stops and at local points of interest. The description and difficulty of the ride on the website matched our experience. I look forward to another trip with SpiceRoads!

Challenging biking at times but with good van support. The food was delicious and the guide gave us the opportunity to try many different things.

What a trip... Challenging in spots, but the effort was rewarded at the end of the day with a soak in the onsen's. The scenery and shrines sublime. Our guides and support team were great. Lloyd did a fantastic job keeping us informed about the history, moving and safe. Zack had wonderful empirical knowledge on local customs, ie, each town has their own artist designing man hole covers... And Hideki was very aware of our teams needs, espcecialy the coffee, to sustain us throughout the journey.
