About this Cycle Tour

Okinawa is Japan’s tropical soul. This 8-day, 387 km cycling adventure takes us on a clockwise road cycling loop around the entire island, from the deep blue shores of the West Coast, the wild jungles of the North, the winding ridges of the East, and the limestone cliffs of the South. Ride like the pros in the UCI Tour de Okinawa but at an island pace with cosy resort stays, fusion culture, and leisurely meals.

We kick off from the capital Naha and head north along the East China Sea, transitioning from urban buzz to island bliss at Cape Zanpa. The route opens up as we track the Motobu Peninsula to reach the spectacular Kouri Bridge, a two-kilometre dash over shimmering emerald waters. After reaching Cape Hedo, the island's northernmost tip, we ascend into the UNESCO-listed Yanbaru National Park, navigating subtropical rainforests teeming with rare birdlife. Turning south, we settle into a rhythm of punchy climbs past the east coast's sprawling pineapple plantations before reaching the birthplace of "Taco Rice" at Kin. The final stages take us across the Kaichu-doro causeway and into the gritty, 1970s rock 'n' roll nostalgia of Okinawa City before we loop the southern Chinen Peninsula back to Naha. The tour ends with a celebratory farewell dinner and optional bar-hopping in true Okinawan style.

Join us and circumnavigate Okinawa by road bike in style and comfort!

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet at our tour hotel in Naha for a trip briefing and welcome dinner.

Day 2

Departing Naha, we ride through the city to Araha Beach. From here, island vibes and Okinawa’s famous blue, coastal scenery take centre stage. We pass iconic Cape Zanpa, continuing to Onna to stay at a premier sea view resort.

Day 3

Leaving Onna, we head north through the seaside towns and ports of the Motobu Peninsula. At 50 km, we cross the iconic Kouri Bridge, seemingly riding across the ocean itself. We finish with a blissful 20 km coastal stretch to Okuma Beach.

Day 4

We follow Route 58 to reach Cape Hedo, the island’s northern tip, before climbing into the hilly forests of Yanbaru National Park. After descending to the east coast, we head into the forest once more to a secluded hotel nestled amidst greenery teeming with birdlife.

Day 5

Starting from the dense tropical foliage of Okinawa’s far north, we make our way down the east coast with a consistent rhythm of climbs and descents. We pass jungle, pineapple farms, and the Pacific shore to reach Kin, the birthplace of Taco Rice.

Day 6

A gentle early morning ride brings us south past Kin Bay and across Kaichu-doro, a spectacular causeway surrounded by the turquoise shallows of the Pacific Ocean. The afternoon is free to explore Okinawa City with its nostalgic 1970s rock 'n' roll feel.

Day 7

Today we come full circle, looping Okinawa’s southern point back to Naha. We trade the urban sprawl for the Chinen Peninsula’s rugged limestone cliffs and coastal roads, passing the poignant Peace Memorial Park. We meet for a farewell dinner in the evening.

Day 8

Our tour has ended, but feel free to stay longer to discover the Okinawa Archipelago or travel elsewhere in Japan.
