About this Cycle Tour

Colombia is Latin America’s most celebrated road biking destination. And this 9-day tour offers a true celebration of why that is the case: roads coiling up and down the Andes, verdant coffee regions, misty cloud forests, and a vibrant cycling culture where two wheels are revered. Connecting the city of Cali in the Cauca Valley to the UNESCO World Heritage-recognized “Coffee Cultural Landscape” this journey is not a pro training camp. It’s a beautiful ride for recreational road cyclists looking to challenge themselves while experiencing one of Colombia’s most stunning regions in comfort and style.

Starting from Cali, the world capital of salsa dancing, our adventure begins with a ride into the misty lower slopes of the Western Andes. After a night near the shores of Calima Lake, we descend into the heart of the Cauca Valley, where expansive sugarcane plantations line the roads. We test our legs with an ascent to the small town of Trujillo, before cruising back into the valley to reach one of Colombia’s most renowned wine-growing regions. And then, it’s time for coffee! We ride into the highlands where the hills are blanketed by rows of coffee plants and the proud communities tending to them, continuing a legacy that spans over 150 years. We spend two nights in the heart of the region and take a day off the bikes to go hiking in the dreamy Cocora Valley, home to the world’s tallest palm trees. We ring out the adventure by cycling back into the Cauca Valley and tackling a final Andean ascent with beautiful views. The tour ends with an airport transfer, either to the city of Armenia or Pereira.

Join us for a Colombian road biking classic fueled by fabulous routes and copious amounts of world-class coffee!

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet at our tour hotel in Cali in the afternoon for a trip briefing and welcome dinner.

Day 2

We transfer 1.5 hours north to the highland town of La Cumbre where we saddle up for our inaugural ride. Cycling on undulating minor roads, we pass Andean cloud forests and farmlands before skirting around Calima Lake. We spend the night at a hotel nestled in the hills.

Day 3

A short transfer brings us back into the Cauca Valley where we ride through plains draped by expansive sugarcane plantations. Today’s short stage is crowned by a steep hilltop finish to the highland town of Trujilio. Relax with a coffee in the quiet central plaza.

Day 4

We cruise back down into the Cauca Valley and continue north through the heart of Colombia’s agricultural basin. Here, vast sugarcane fields, mango orchards, and wide canopied rain trees line our route. We end the ride in La Unión, a municipality renowned for its boutique vineyards.

Day 5

We transition from the flat plains of the Cauca Valley into the coffee-studded highlands of the Central Andes. The highlight is a long, gradual ascent over hills blanketed in rows of coffee plants and the proud communities tending to them, continuing a legacy that spans over 150 years.

Day 6

Another great ride in Colombia’s coffee region awaits. Following a short descent and some level terrain, today’s highlight is a long but mild ascent to the charming Andean town of Salento, perched at nearly 2,000 metres ASL. We are based here for two nights.

Day 7

Today we trade our cycling cleats for hiking shoes to explore the dreamy Cocora Valley, home to the world’s tallest palm trees. We also visit a local coffee farm to learn about the entire production process from bean to cup.

Day 8

Our final ride descends back into the Cauca Valley before a last, rewarding climb to the mountaintop village of Buenavista. From there, we transfer to our final night's hotel, nestled among coffee plantations, where we celebrate the journey with a farewell dinner.

Day 9

The tour ends with a transfer to either the city of Armenia, around 30 minutes away, or Pereira, around 1.5 hours away. Both cities have airports, though Pereira offers a greater number of flights.
