About this Cycle Tour

Get ready for an insider’s road cycling tour of the lesser known regions to the east of Bangkok. Combining some of our favorite weekend getaway routes into one seamless, point-to-point journey, this 9-day adventure takes us across endless rice paddies, over jungle-covered hills, through shady rubber tree plantations, and along the sparkling Gulf of Thailand coastline. Experience long-distance riding through rural Thailand at its finest, elevated comforts at cosy upcountry resorts, and delicious Thai cuisine.

Starting with a short transfer out of Bangkok, the tour is divided into 4 main stages:

Stage 1: Rural Bliss at the Edge of Wilderness. We kick things off in Nakhon Nayok Province where, based for two days, we cycle through a world of rice fields, fruit orchards, canals and reservoirs surrounded by the wild jungles of Khao Yai National Park.

Stage 2: The Iconic Khao Yai Climb. Day 4 signifies the tour’s toughest feat: a climb up, and down, Khao Yai National Park along a beautiful road embraced by lush jungle foliage. The reward? Lunch at a vineyard producing award-winning Thai wine.

Stage 3: Into the Plains. From the edge of the rainforest we transition to the river plains of the east, Thailand’s economic heartland. We take in scenes of daily life while testing our endurance on country roads leading into the district Si Racha (yes, that’s where the famous hot sauce is from!).

Stage 4: Onto the Coast. We descend onto the coast of Thailand through rubber tree plantations and wetlands. Spending two nights near the powdery sands of Mae Phim Beach, we enjoy a farewell loop through the backwaters of Rayong Province. The tour ends with a transfer back to Bangkok. Optionally, you can continue onwards to the paradise islands of Koh Samet or Koh Chang.

Join us on this eye-opening road cycling saga from the wilds of Khao Yai to the Gulf of Thailand coast!

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in Bangkok and transfer to the province of Nakhon Nayok, kicking things off with a flat century ride through endless rice paddies. In the distance the hills of Khao Yai National Park draw ever closer. We spend the first of two nights at a charming upcountry retreat.

Day 2

Today, we embark on one of our most beloved road cycling loops. Highlights include crossing the embankment of a scenic reservoir, cycling through the manicured grounds of a Thai Royal Army academy, and lovely views of Khao Yai National Park’s rugged hills pressed against a sprawling patchwork of agricultural fields.

Day 3

On today's shorter ride we inch closer towards the wilds of Khao Yai, ending up at a lovely resort at the doorstep of the western entrance to the National Park. We ride along a winding canal, weave through rice paddies, and stop at picturesque lakes nestled in the hills.

Day 4

Today, we conquer the iconic Khao Yai climb, gaining over 1,000m in 40 km. We ride along a smooth road embraced by tropical foliage, then cruise down the other side, ending our ride at an award-winning vineyard for lunch before a transfer back to our resort.

Day 5

We cycle away from the untamed jungles of Khao Yai and weave across the flat river plains of Prachinburi Province. Rice paddies, fruit orchards, towering palm trees, bamboo groves, and lively market towns line our route towards tonight’s Thai-style rural retreat.

Day 6

We settle in for an endurance test in the saddle, covering a large portion of Thailand’s “Eastern Seaboard” for a true glimpse into the dynamism of the Kingdom’s economic heartland. We spend the night in the district of Si Racha, birthplace of the famous hot sauce.

Day 7

Today, we'll reach a memorable milestone as we are greeted by the gentle waves and powdery sands of the Gulf of Thailand coast. To get there, we'll ride through a vast network of rubber tree plantations in Rayong Province’s hilly hinterland and a tranquil wetland area filled with lotus lakes.

Day 8

Based at Mae Phim Beach, we complete our cycling tour with a farewell loop in the countryside of Rayong Province. Our ride takes us past shrimp farms and durian orchards, through a riverside community, and over bridges spanning estuaries. In the evening, we meet for a celebratory dinner.

Day 9

Transfer back to Bangkok with the SpiceRoads team or extend your stay to explore more of the Gulf of Thailand’s beaches and islands.
