About this Cycle Tour

This 7-day cycling journey to the east of Bangkok is a tale of two Thailands. One is an inland region of river plains filled with rice paddies and reservoirs at the edge of the rainforest. The other is a coastal region of beaches, rubber trees, fruit orchards, and retro towns. Complemented by delightful accommodations, tasty Thai food, and off-saddle explorations of untamed wilderness, this is the ideal moderate level cycling route for those looking to see a different side of the “Land of Smiles”.

Starting from Bangkok, we whisk ourselves away to the west side of Khao Yai National Park. Here, a network of rural roads radiating across plains and gently rolling hills offer a dream venue for cyclists. We also spend an afternoon off the bikes in the lush jungles of Khao Yai with a chance to see wild elephants or gibbons (if we’re lucky!). After a ride through a patchwork of rice fields, we drive to the east coast for a two night stay on Mae Phim Beach. Here we ride into an agrarian hinterland of rubber tree plantations and cruise through wetlands on an electric boat. We then cycle across estuaries, rugged headlands, and shrimp farms to reach Chao Lao Beach before a grand finale through vibrant tropical fruit orchards to the city of Chanthaburi, renowned for its centuries old riverside community. The tour ends with a transfer back to Bangkok. Optionally, you can continue onwards to the paradise islands of Koh Chang, Koh Mak, or Koh Kood in the Gulf of Thailand.

Join us and explore the bounty of eastern Thailand from the wilds of Khao Yai to the Gulf of Thailand coast!

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in Bangkok and transfer to the rural province of Nakhon Nayok. After lunch we saddle-up and enjoy an inaugural loop through an agrarian world of rice paddies, fruit orchards, villages, reservoirs, and Buddhist temples. We spend the night at a charming resort nestled in the countryside.

Day 2

In the morning we enjoy a short but sweet ride through the countryside at the edge of wilderness in Khao Yai National Park. In the afternoon, we drive into the park for some light trekking and a hopeful chance at an encounter with elephants, gibbons, and other wildlife.

Day 3

We cycle away from the untamed jungles of Khao Yai and enter into a patchwork of endless rice paddies in the river plains of Prachinburi Province. Post-lunch we transfer around 3.5 hours to a beach on the Gulf of Thailand coast where we will be based for two nights.

Day 4

Based at Mae Phim Beach, today we enjoy a lovely ride into the agrarian, hilly hinterland of Rayong Province. We ride through a vast network of rubber tree plantations and a wetland area filled with lotus lakes before capping off the day with an electric boat cruise.

Day 5

Cycling from one beach to another, we dive into the rich bounty of eastern Thailand from fertile farmlands to rich aquaculture. Highlights include circling around a scenic headland where the road presses right up against the ocean and darting past shrimp farms to reach Chao Lao Beach.

Day 6

Our final ride takes us past a lagoon and the coastline before veering inland through tropical fruit orchards and coconut groves. After saddling-off in the historic city of Chanthaburi, renowned for its vintage riverside community, we reconvene for a farewell dinner and spend the night.

Day 7

Transfer back to Bangkok with the SpiceRoads team or extend your stay to explore paradise islands in the Gulf of Thailand.
