About this Cycle Tour

To the west of Bangkok lies a road cycling haven. Imagine rural roads winding through a vast agrarian landscape, crossing gently flowing rivers, skirting lush national parks filled with untamed rainforests, and climbing the Tenasserim Hills before descending to the Gulf of Thailand coast. From remote, rural backwaters to the bustling beach town of Hua Hin, this journey is an instant Thai classic for passionate roadies!

Starting with a short transfer out of Bangkok, the tour is divided into 3 main stages:

Stage 1: Kanchanaburi. The adventure begins with a gentle two days of less than 70 km, warming up our legs while exploring Kanchanaburi Province, famous for its WW2-era memorial sites and riverside resorts.

Stage 2: The Wild West. Days 3 to 5 are the meatiest, as we ride between 100-130 km per day along the rolling hills of Thailand’s western frontier. We spend our days on fabulous backcountry roads, ride along Thailand’s largest national park, and visit a wildlife sanctuary where rescued elephants roam free.

Stage 3: The Gulf of Thailand Coast. On Day 6, we arrive in Hua Hin, a favorite beach getaway for Thais and tourists alike. Based here for two nights, we enjoy a farewell loop along the palm-fringed coast and a pineapple field-studded hinterland. The tour ends with a transfer back to Bangkok.

Join us on this memorable ride from Bangkok to Hua Hin and discover a rustic slice of western Thailand by road bike!

Itinerary

Day 1

We transfer from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi and warm-up with a gentle ride through river plains. Our route takes us through the city of Kanchanaburi where we visit the iconic Bridge on the River Kwai and the War Cemetery before arriving at a delightful riverside hotel.

Day 2

Today's ride takes us through more of rural Kanchanaburi, cycling past fields of rice, sugarcane, and cassava. As we push on, the scenery transitions to the densely forested hills of Sai Yok National Park where we take a boat to a secluded yet elegant resort along the Khwae Noi River.

Day 3

Dialing up the challenge, today we ride nearly 130 km into the remote, mountainous frontier between Thailand and Myanmar. A landscape of rolling hills, wild forests, fruit orchards, and oil palm plantations lines our path toward Suan Phueng, a quiet corner of western Thailand with crisp air and beautiful views.

Day 4

We are now fully immersed in the remote countryside of western Thailand and today’s route promises to be a simply delightful day in the saddle. We ride on smoothly paved roads through farmlands, over rolling hills, and past reservoirs before concluding our ride at an upcountry retreat in Phetchaburi Province.

Day 5

Another century ride awaits as we head towards Kaeng Krachan, Thailand’s largest national park. We ride up and down on rural roads across a mildly undulating landscape of untamed forests, lush farmlands, and a massive reservoir. We spend the night in this wildlife-rich region.

Day 6

In the morning we visit Thailand’s biggest wildlife rescue centre, where we meet elephants, bears, gibbons and many more animals given a second chance at life. In the afternoon, we cycle to Hua Hin on the Gulf of Thailand coast. Choose your own dinner in this bustling beach town.

Day 7

For our cool-down ride, we embark on a loop around Hua Hin, starting with ocean views along a beach road. We then veer inland through oil palm plantations and open fields. The afternoon is free to relax in Hua Hin before gathering for a farewell dinner.

Day 8

We transfer back to Bangkok mid-morning. Extend your stay or head to the airport.

Reviews

It was great to meet with our guide P'Nai again for my second tour in Thailand, Kanchanaburi Hills. A smaller group this time, but we enjoyed the contrast of the mountains versus the coastal tour. I will be back next year for my third tour.

Excellent guide and team led us through an interesting part of Thailand. The tour was a good mix of distance cycling, great food, and interesting history of the Kanchanaburi area.
