5 Reasons Why Greenland is Our Boldest Frontier Yet

Mihai Voicu, our Europe Product Manager, shares why we're swapping the tropics for the tundra with our boldest cycling frontier yet!

"This January, I joined the SpiceRoads team as the European Product Manager. Fancy way of saying I design the trips we take you on. While I have been a cycling guide since 2019, my background is actually rooted in the cold. I spent three seasons as an outdoor guide in the Finnish Arctic, so I’m no stranger to ice and snow. I’ve visited Norway and Sweden, and I thought I knew exactly what an "Arctic experience" meant."

Then came Greenland.

In February, I was in our Bangkok office for onboarding. It was a typical Thai day, hot enough for shorts and T-shirts, and I was giving a presentation to the whole team. There were a lot of updates that day, but when I pulled up the photos of our new trip, Greenland: Cycling from Ice to Sea, the room started buzzing. What was meant to be a 5-minute presentation turned into 20 minutes of Q&A.

Our team has organised tours in over 40 destinations, but these images sparked a level of excitement I hadn't seen yet. It felt like we weren't just adding a new tour; we were opening a true frontier.

Here are 5 reasons why I’m most excited about this trip

1. The Ultimate Bragging Rights

If you tell your friends you’re going to Finland or Norway, they’ll say "cool" and ask a few questions. But when you say you’re going to Greenland, people stop what they’re doing. It’s a jaw-dropping destination. Just like my colleagues in Bangkok, your friends will be buzzing with questions. Because there are no interconnected roads between towns, you are a true pioneer on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

2. The Biker’s Edge

The Arctic Circle Trail is legendary for hikers, but walking it takes a long time. On the other hand, cruise ship passengers only ever see the fjords from the water. Biking is the "sweet spot." It gives us the efficiency to cover more ground and see a massive variety of scenery on a point-to-point journey from the ice sheet to the sea. On a bike, you are moving through the landscape rather than just looking as a spectator.

3. A Masterclass in Silence

Because there is almost no vegetation in this part of Greenland, there is nothing for the wind to hit. This creates a silence so heavy and profound it feels like being in a soundproof room, but you are outdoors in a vast, ancient landscape. On a bike, without an engine, your senses finally get to explore what is actually happening around you.

4. Expedition Heart, Rested Soul

I love a raw expedition: the camaraderie of a tented camp, drinking straight from mountain streams, and bathing in hidden lakes. But I also believe you shouldn't need a holiday to recover from your holiday. We have designed this with a "back-to-basics" feel, but we still prioritise your comfort. While we spend nights camping with full support—meaning our team handles the gear, tents, and local meals—we also make sure a spa and sauna are waiting for you. You get the grit of the trail, but you go home feeling rested.

5. Culture as the Final Toast

I always ask: "If you only come here once in a lifetime, what is the one thing you can't miss?" For Greenland, it’s not just the biking; it’s the sea. We finish the journey with a boat tour through the fjords to see whales, dolphins, and the UNESCO World Heritage Inuit villages. It is the perfect shift from the quiet interior to the vibrant coastal history.

What’s Next?

We’re just getting warmed up. While Greenland is our newest frontier, we are busy expanding our reach across Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Whether you’re looking for the silent tundra or the rolling hills of more classic European routes, keep an eye on our website. We are adding more trips every month as summer approaches.
