About this Cycle Tour

With a history over 4,000 years old, our heritage bicycle tour fuses the beauty of Vietnam’s central landscape with a glimpse into its rich, evocative past. Concentrated to just 250 km, our journey envelops the area surrounding the Hai Van Pass in central Vietnam. At Hue, the former Imperial capital of the Nguyen Dynasty, step into the past to enjoy manicured gardens and the sprawling complex of stunning palace buildings. Then our bicycle tour through Vietnam continues on down the coastal road to My Son, built by the kings of Champa between the 4th and 14th centuries, now the site of the most extensive Cham remains.

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hue and are immediately introduced to the Nguyen Dynasty during our tour of the Imperial Citadel, modeled after China’s Forbidden City.

Day 2

We explore by boat and bicycle the rich heritage left behind by the emperors of the Ngu Yen Dynasty. We cruise on the Perfume River to the seven-storey Thien Mu Pagoda then cycle to Ming Mang and Khai Dinh mausoleums.

Day 3

We cycle the countryside on a mix of footpaths and quiet country lanes to the traditional village of Phuoc Tich, where many homes are more than 200 years old.

Day 4

We cycle along the coast south to Lang Co Beach, passing colourful graveyards and fishing villages. The afternoon is free to enjoy the resort and beach.

Day 5

Ride and tackle a gradual 550-m climb with many switchbacks to the top of Hai Van Pass for a panoramic view. Then it's downhill from here to Danang, with a stop to visit Danang Beach before reaching our destination of Hoi An.

Day 6

Small village roads will lead us back in time to the ruins of the ancient centre of the Cham civilisation, My Son. Built from the 4th to the 14th centuries, this was once Champa's greatest city, but much was destroyed by American bombs.

Day 7

Our cycling adventure comes to an end today. We celebrate our success with one last breakfast together.

Reviews

It was a wonderful experience, thank you for your excellent organization. The ten members of our group enjoyed themselves immensely. The local guides, Anh Co and Ki looked after us well. They challenged us, they educated us ,they informed us, entertained, laughed and played with us.

The scenery was beautiful, the people we met were gracious, the meals were always good the accommodation excellent. No request was a problem. Bikes were very good as was the assistance with individual adjustments and repairs.

Thank you to SpiceRoads for your excellent organization. We would especially like to thank Anh Co and Ki, our guides and our bus and truck drivers.

This was one of the best vacations we've ever had! The trip was extremely well organized, the bikes were great, and both of our guides "Anh Co" and "Mr. Thang aka Tebow" were very impressive. The support vehicle was great too as there were plenty of water breaks and snack stops about every hour during the ride. Anh Co was both funny and very informative which kept us entertained through the entire trip. The bike course was beautiful and led us through several back roads. This was our first experience with SpiceRoads and our family will definitely return for another ride in the future.

We like to provide quotes from our riders on our website and social media. If you are happy to be quoted please provide a few words to sum up your experience: The guiding made the tour. On our own we might have found some road routes, but could not have found the right combination of roads and paved and dirt paths through residential neighborhoods, historic districts, fish and and rice farms. In the mid-June heat, having water and fruit available every hour was a necessity and also a luxury. The dining choices were satisfying (and completely sanitary) without being dull. The hotels were more than adequate for the purpose, with comfortable rooms and generous breakfast buffets.
