About this Cycle Tour

Peru is a special country and we think we have come up with a cycling trip that does this amazing part of the world justice. Spiceroads first cycle trip in Peru offers the opportunity to ride from Cusco, the former capital of the Incas perched high in the Andes at 3,300 metres altitude down through the Sacred Valley into Manu National Park in the Amazon region, which is 500 metres above sea level.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Cusco and transfer to hotel. Group briefing and Dinner.

Day 2

Ride downhill out of Cusco to Huambutio along a beautiful rarely used road beside the Rio Urubamba enjoying the spectacular mountain scenery. Stop for a picnic before reaching Pisac in time to look around the town and discover its artisan market.

Day 3

Transfer up to the Altiplano to a pass at 4100m and start a great descent with spectacular views of the surrounding Andes and an amazing descent into the cloud forest. Continue descending into the Amazon basin and ride through spectacular cloud forest to hopefully glimpse some rare wildlife before arriving in San Pedro.

Day 4

Continue riding downhill into the rainforest passing many small villages along dirt trails through the forest stopping along the way to enjoy a picnic lunch as well as taking the chance to cool off in a pristine jungle stream. Finally arriving in Atalaya, the gateway to Manu National Park, and take a boat to Amazonia Jungle Lodge.

Day 5

Take a day off the bikes to explore Manu National Park, one of the world’s most incredible, diverse and fragile ecosystems. Options for jungle walks and birdwatching in the Amazon basin and the rainforest.

Day 6

Take a boat trip back to Atalaya, meet our vehicle and drive back to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with the option to enjoy two spectacular downhill rides before arriving in Pisac late in the afternoon.

Day 7

Cycling straight from our hotel to explore lovely back roads along the Sacred Valley of the Incas passing the Andean village of Taray and through colourful local villages and haciendas to Huayllabamba, Yucay, the town of Urubamba and finally, the charming village of Ollantaytambo.

Day 8

Transfer to the small village of Pacchar for a spectacular loop ride climbing out of the Sacred Valley to Moray, the site of some amazing circular Inca ruins and the beautiful lake Huaypo. More quiet dirt roads take us to the town of Maras where we ride through salt pans that have been mined since Inca times before transferring back into Ollantaytambo.

Day 9

Our final thrilling adventure takes us well off the beaten track up into the valley of Huilloc and Patacancha to an altitude of 4000m before setting off on our bikes on an amazing descent into the beautiful and remote Lares valley. Visit the medicinal springs before another short bus transfer brings us to Abra Lares at 4400m for a 1300m vertical descent "downhill of a lifetime" on a good tarmac road with very little traffic or an amazing off-road descent for the adventurous. We end our ride in the historic main square of Calca before returning to Cusco.

Day 10

We will transfer you to Cusco airport in time for your onward flight.
