Itinerary

Day 1

Welcome to Colombia - please make your way to our start hotel. In the evening trip briefing and dinner.

Day 2

Easy ride to get used to the altitude. Rolling terrain with fantastic mountain views, churches, small towns and a late lunch in a beautiful main plaza.

Day 3

A lagoon, beautiful architecture, ceramics and a mix of paved and unpaved roads are what we have for today’s biking instalment.

Day 4

Contrasting scenery, panoramic views and Villa de Leyva, a great example of the whitewashed colonial architecture and a town of historical significance will be the highlights of today.

Day 5

A circular route today as we stay in Villa de Leyva and a chance to taste some of the wine produced by Colombia, and then a relaxing afternoon is the order of the day.

Day 6

Early start today to get the best weather as we head to Moniquira, the “place of bath” and also the best producer of Bocadillo, the best fuel for cycling.

Day 7

A great day for the mountain bikers as we hit some off-road mountain trails, stopping at an incredible waterfall before lunch in a colonial setting.

Day 8

Another day to savour as the gravel roads continue as we climb to Guane and see impressive nature and the red and yellow tones of the mountains in this dry enclave.

Day 9

The charming and laid-back town of Barichara and exciting mountain biking are what we have lined up today – a day to look forward to.

Day 10

Rest day today, but still a fantastic day, as we take the cable car across the canyon Mesa de los Santos, the second-largest, with the Grand Canyon being the largest. A memorable day.

Day 11

Fantastic trails, coffee making, local birdlife and local beer is a fitting way to end our biking and it is a cracker of a day!

Day 12

Bittersweet day as we head away from our bike trip, but still plenty to see in Colombia and the start of your next adventure!

Reviews

The trip "Riding The Colombian Andes" was a fantastic combination of visiting valley farms, rolling hillsides along with high mountain ridges of the Andes Mountains which offered spectacular views! Being able to visit a vineyard including a tour, tasting and an amazing lunch was very memorable. Another highlight was visiting the organic coffee plantation which also included a tour tasting and a wonderful lunch served in the courtyard of the property. Also along the way each day we explored many small towns which all offered amazing central plazas or parks to rest, enjoy the view and take in a local treat and a beverage of choice usually amazing coffee, before continuing on cycling.

Our guide Camilo Santos was fantastic, the best, who went out of his way to accommodate our wishes. He worked hard to give us various route riding options which were tailored to our individual riding abilities. Camilo gave excellent detailed briefings each day as to what our route conditions would be for the following day along with presenting our options. Camilo was very attentive to accommodating the differences with our 3 different riding abilities.

Our driver was Oscar Robayo, he was an amazing driver. He was very smooth operating his clean and comfortable support pickup truck which was used to transport our group of 3 tourists, guide, luggage, rest stop supplies (snacks and hydration), along with our bikes. Oscar was always smiling, helpful and eager to be in position to take photos of us along the way.

Enjoyed cycling hills and trails in Colombia. There was no flat sections and I am proud of finishing the trip. See back country Colombia and the colonial villages up close. Great tour leader!
