Vietnam Heritage by Bicycle
We cycle to three UNESCO World Heritage sites on this journey of discovery through central Vietnam. As we ride from Hue to Hoi An we indulge in the delicious local specialties and are immersed in the scenic landscapes of the countryside as well as the coast.
Vietnam's long history is an ever present companion on our cycle tour as we learn about the 13 emperors of the powerful Ngu Yen Dynasty and visit their legacies scattered throughout the countryside on the banks of the Perfume River. Traditions of rural life are still kept alive and villagers planting rice under their conical hats in the patchwork paddy fields and children riding their water buffaloes will be common scenes. A visit to the ancient village of Phouc Tich will impress upon you how proud the Vietnamese are of their culture and heritage.
Riding south from Hue we keep to the coast where we'll pass numerous mini mausoleums, pagodas and war memorials en route. A well-earned view from the top of Hai Van pass will allow you to see Danang and the famous China Beach. We cycle on to the quaint town of Hoi An, once the largest harbour in Southeast Asia. From this charming town we cycle out to the Hindu temples of My Son that were built during the 4th and the 14th century by the kings of Champa.
