All About this Tour

We invite you to discover the relatively unexplored northeast region of Vietnam, near the border with China where, until recently, you needed special permits to visit. Here you'll be riding through dramatic landscapes and the villages of colourful ethnic minorities still living as they have for hundreds of years.

Itinerary

Day 1

Meet in late afternoon in Hanoi for a trip briefing and have an early din-ner. Then we transfer to the train station to catch the train to Lao Cai.

Day 2

Once in Lao Cai, we have breakfast and transfer to the Bac Ha Market, which attracts local peoples such as the Hmong, Zao, Tay, and Phu La. After lunch and bike fitting, we warm up by exploring the countryside around the Ban Pho Valley.

Day 3

We bike directly from our hotel, following village paths that wind up and down through a series of valleys and Flower Hmong villages. After lunch with the Tay people, we cycle on to Sin Man Town and our hotel.

Day 4

Bike along a single-track trail skirting around the Ta Cu Ty Mountains. The route is a combination of short, loose rocky sections and hard-packed dirt trails with some stream crossings. We also cross two suspension bridges today.

Day 5

This is the most challenging day of the whole trip with plenty of up-hills and a mix of dirt roads and single track. The paths take us to lunch at a Red Zao village, where we rest our legs and enjoy panoramic views across the valley.

Day 6

Today's path is rocky and turns into a narrow single track as it takes us to Hop Nhat Village. Get more active as we pedal hard to conquer the 1,472-m pass before enjoying the cruise along the Hoang Su Phi Valley to our hotel.

Day 7

We hop on the bikes and venture back into the hills around Pan Hou, cycling along village paths and winding our way up and around the mountains.

Day 8

We ride paths from village to village through the untouched region to Quang Binh. After lunch, we descend to the lowlands, home to the Tay people.

Day 9

Early risers may want to visit Luc Yen's local gemstone market. After breakfast, we cycle on an undulating country road, passing dozens of stunning and lush valleys to Thac Ba Lake.

Day 10

Transfer back to Hanoi, where our trip ends.
