Itinerary

Day 1

After a fitting and briefing, we take a nice easy ride through the outskirts of the city to get accustomed to riding in Thailand.

Day 2

We transfer to the base of Doi Mae Salong and ride up through the forest on tarmac lined with wild poinsettas to Mae Salong, an ethnic Chinese village, for lunch and tea sampling. Later you're free to laze by the pool or explore the countryside.

Day 3

We start riding on gentle undulating terrain to a waterfall for a dip and lunch. We then ride down to the Mae Kok River and transfer to Chiang Rai.

Day 4

We head to Mae Salak one of the most scenic routes on the trip and a real pleasure to ride. The undulating dirt road follows the Mae Kok River as we ride towards Thaton.

Day 5

Today is an easy recovery day. We cycle 36 km on beautiful country roads taking in river views, stark mountain back drops and emerald green rice paddies.

Day 6

We ride through rice fields and among soaring limestone cliffs before hitting the dirt. We ride dirt roads cut by local hill tribes.

Day 7

We have a tough but rewarding day riding up and into the mountains. Then we can look forward to spectacular scenery on the way up and plenty of rest stops to refuel and take it all in.

Day 8

We see some fantastic views and long flowing downhills, some technical sections and a few more ups to keep the heart pumping. Then we finish off with an undulating dirt road ride along the river.

Day 9

We embark on a great ride covering about 45 km with some hills and fantastic undulating single track. There's also time for a dip in a waterfall before a long enjoyable downhill down to our host village.

Day 10

A memorable cruise on a bamboo raft takes us on the glassy Mae Taeng River past elephant camps, local fishermen, and exciting rapids to test your rafting skills. We finish with a short ride in the foothills of Mae Taeng.

Day 11

This morning you can take a steam bath, have a massage, or go for an ox-cart ride to the orchards before heading back to Chiang Mai.

Reviews

We could go on about the fantastic service, the excellent food, the terrific cultural experience and the 10 day mountain bike excursion.....

We would recommend Spice Roads to anyone that is looking to see Thailand or Asia, for that matter by bike. Spice Roads offers a multitude of shorter day tours as well as tarmac versus mountain biking. The 10 day Tribal Trails is a must for experienced mountain bikers.

The food provided during the day and in the evening was every time very good.

We loved both our guide and our driver. Win was an excellent guide - off road he was the king but we managed to get him on the tarmac! Mr S was awesome, his manner and his timeliness was just perfect - we loved him!

Food was one of the highlights of this tour - it was awesome - Win and Mr S introduced us to some weird fish dish and northern sausages - both totally delicious. Also all the snacks provided were fantastic - I am now in love with mangostein and longkong (sp?)

We had such a good time!
