About this Cycle Tour

Sri Lanka is a melting pot of diverse terrains, a vivid culture, glorious architecture, religious sites, delicious food, and a historic identity, which has formed through the centuries. Overall, the country possesses a charming magnetism, which travelers and holidaymakers are attracted to. It is also quickly becoming a dream destination for cyclists to discover. The north, in particular, is unique to the rest of the country due to its geographic location, countryside roads, culture, and historical significance.

This 5-day road biking tour takes you on a fascinating journey on fairly flat country and city roads of northern Sri Lanka.

We begin the trip in Negombo, best known for its old craft fishing industry, sandy beaches and a touch of European influence from the old days. Next, we arrive in Jaffna, known as an enchantingly cultural and a seductively artistic city. Last, on the trip is Anuradhapura, a sacred kingdom and a world heritage site sprawling with iconic ruins and architecture to admire.

Take this road bike trip if you love long cycling trips on flat roads filled with scenic coastal and jungle views as well as interesting cultural attractions along the way.

Itinerary

Day 1

Our Sri Lankan guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. We will have a trip briefing and a welcome dinner.

Day 2

After breakfast, we visit a fishing market in Negombo where you will be able to observe the local way of life. We then take a 3-hour transfer to Eluwankulama where our cycling begins. We will straddle the borders of Wilpattu Forest where we have a chance to see endemic wildlife such as the Ceylon junglefowl. After cycling for 100 km we transfer to our hotel in Jaffna.

Day 3

Today we explore the northern region off the coast of Jaffna. We bike to Kayts Island before crossing over to Karainagar Island by ferry. We will have lunch at the beach and then cycle to Point Pedro, the northernmost point of Sri Lanka. We then make our way back to the hotel. We will ride a total of 112 km today. In the evening, if there is time, don't miss out on visiting the market and Jaffna fort.

Day 4

After breakfast, get ready to ride another century ride. We cycle on fairly flat roads in good condition, excellent for road biking enthusiasts. We ride till the outskirts of Mankulam where we end our biking and load up for a transfer to Anuradhapura.

Day 5

It is our last day so we will take it easy by riding gently around the sacred city of Anuradhapura, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After exploring around for a bit, we drop you off at the airport or feel free to extend your stay in Sri Lanka.
