About this Cycle Tour

Leave the chaos of Hanoi behind for a day as you cycle through farmlands and villages surrounding the city. On this Hanoi bicycle tour, we cycle on the banks of the Red River on a quiet farm road passing through flower and vegetable gardens, traditional village lanes, and alongside lotus lakes to give you a whole new view of Vietnam’s capital city. You’ll be surprised at how little traffic we’ll encounter as your tour guide brings you to a side of Hanoi that’s well off the beaten path.

Reviews

The Hanoi Explorer was our third Spice Roads excursion, but our first in Vietnam. It was very enjoyable.

Our guide picked us up at our hotel and then took us to the bike pick-up. From there, we spent 4-5 hours winding our way through the Hanoi countryside. Our guide made it clear that we were free to stop anytime for pictures, but we chose to keep riding most of the time. We stopped at some lovely flowerbeds, a market, and a temple (and the odd time for a snack).

At the market, our guide got us Vietnamese apple, dragonfruit, and siem, a juicy fruit with a flavor at once faintly fermented and buttery. It was fun to try the local fruit.

During the temple tour, our guide did a great job of explaining the significance of the architecture while also giving us space to explore on our own. After visiting the temple, the three of us enjoyed a strong cup of green tea by a nearby lake together.

We ended the ride with a delicious bowl of bun cha.

Of all the things we did in Hanoi, this was probably our favorite. We strongly recommend it to anyone who loves getting beyond the usual tourist loop or being outdoors.

One quick note: you should be comfortable having traffic pass you at close quarters if doing this ride. 90% of the riding this is a non-issue, but about 10% of the ride is on some more traffic heavy Hanoi roads. Your guide will do a brilliant job of finding safe times to cross, but you yourself also need to be calm.

Mr. Dan and Mr. Qun (the driver) did a great job. I really enjoyed the ride especially at the country side. Mr. Dan had done a great job guiding us through the small alley house and crossing the river. I also enjoyed the seafood lunch and for sure will join your tour in the near future.
