We meet in Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou province, in time for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant for our first taste of local fare.
We transfer early in the morning from Guiyang to Kaili, home to many fascinating ethnic minority groups. From Kaili, we get on our bikes and start cycling to the Miao village of Xijiang. Then we climb up to the Leigong Hills to one of China’s largest Miao villages, also known as the “Thousand Household Village”.
We ride through scenic paddy fields to Leishan. After lunch, we climb up to Leishan Pass. The reward is a breath-taking view of terraced rice fields and small Miao and Dong villages. We continue to Yongle village via scenic dirt paths.
We start with a transfer to Baji village from where we cycle alongside the Duliujiang River. We ride through a valley to Xiajiang for lunch, then ride uphill to the fascinating Basha Miao village. After our visit, we cruise to Congjiang.
A short transfer takes us to our starting point towards Zhaoxing, a pretty Dong town nestled in a valley surrounded by beautiful scenery. Here, we stroll around and explore the town's old wooden buildings, wind and rain bridges, and wooden drum towers.
We cycle on a flat gravel road towards Du Dong. After a climb, we cycle on pleasantly undulating roads through tea plantations. A final downhill push takes us into Tongle for lunch, then we transfer to Sanjiang where it's back on the bikes to Chengyang.
We start in Longshen in the midst of rice terraces from the riverside reaching all the way up to the mountain top. We take the old road that sees very little traffic and have a peaceful ride along the river through this fantastic landscape.
Our morning starts with a hike through the stunning terraced fields for impressive views. Our cycling destination is Xingping. The route follows the valley and gives us gorgeous views of limestone karsts as we follow the meandering Li River.
After breakfast, we ride to Yangshuo, taking a boat across the river to Yangdi. We cycle along quiet rural countryside roads, passing local markets in Baisha village, and following the picturesque Yulong River to Yangshuo, where we spend our last night.
We have one group transfer to Guillin in time for our departure flights.
