Seven Summits of Kathmandu Valley

This cycle tour in Nepal focuses around on mountains and communitoes in the Kathmandu valley. The city of Kathmandu at 1,400 m/4,600 ft is centered in a bowl-shaped valley surrounded by four major mountains. As a jumping off point for treks further afield, very few take the time to explore the backyard of Kathmandu, yet it offers a rich insight into the lives, history, culture and religion of Nepalis, as well as amazing views of the Himalayas, Everest in the east to Annapurna in the west, and the valley. Mountain bike the trails that others overlook with thrilling descents and challenging climbs, panoramic views and an opportunity to experience a different Nepal on this cycle tour from those on the well-frequented trekking routes.

Day 1

We meet up in Kathmandu for a tour of some top attractions before a trip briefing and dinner where we'll discuss bikes, bags and logistics ahead of the next morning's ride.

Day 2

We climb our first two summits on our first day! We first ride on a sealed road to the top of Kakani. We then cycle on a jeep track to our second summit. A different trail takes us down to the valley and our overnight in Budhanilkantha.

Day 3

We ride to Kopan monastery and via a trail to Nepal's biggest stupa and Tibetan hub. After a coffee break we get back on the bikes to bag our next summit -- Nagarkot (2166 m). Once at the top you'll have the best views of the valley and on clear day you can see eight of the world's 10 highest peaks.

Day 4

This morning we ride downhill trail to Changu Narayan Temple and continue descending to Bhaktapur, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After our visit a steady climb to our fourth summit -- Lakhure-Bhanjyang -- and our overnight tented camp.

Day 5

We have a sizzling switchback descent from Lakure-Banjyang as we ride west traversing the southern villages of the valley and the sacred Bagmati River. We then climb on jeep tracks to Hattiban, our fifth summit.

Day 6

A free day to explore two important religious towns. Pharping is an important pilgrimage site for both Tibetans and Hindus. Nearby the temple at Dakshinkali is one of Nepal's main temples dedicated to the goddess Kali.

Day 7

Another easy start downhill before we hit a flat off road stretch and ride via paddy fields to Bungamati. The climbing begins soon enough as we head up to the the remote point of Bhatte Danda, offering another great place to enjoy a hot cuppa tea at the summit.

Day 8

The day of our final and loftiest summit and a 1,465 m climb up! We pass huge marble excavation pits as switchbacks take us up through forest reserves to the top of Phulchoki. From this high point you'll be able to look back and see all the peaks you have conquered!

Day 9

This morning is on your own before your onward flight.
