Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death among women worldwide, with an estimated 493,000 new cases and 274,000 deaths per year. In general terms, it is more common in developing countries, where > 80% of cases occur. More than 50% of the disease burden is in Asia.
Early detection is currently the most effective way for cervical cancer control in these countries.
